I bought this 4 seat sandrail in the spring of 2005.
It had a 2.0 litre Pinto engine which had been built up to give 160 HP.
When it ran right... it was awesome. However, it always seemed to
have engine problems. For example, the timing belt would jump a
tooth or two and things would not run so well. I love being able
to tae more people with me.
I really enjoy the experience of having a 4 seat
sandrail. This rig is very quick and very responsive. The
turning brake does a wonderful job. Along the sides (above) are
various pics of people and rigs we have seen in the past few years out
in the dunes.
In September of 2008, I was
cruising the dunes with friends when a connecting rod broke.
The remains of the rod continued to spin, ripping a hole through the sides of the engine
block and down through the oil pan. You could see
right through the engine! (Take a look at the picture below in the
upper right corner.)
We found a guy with a Jeep to
pull us out. Our
friends still seemed to have a good time, though.
I located another engine from a 1987 Ford Thunderbird. It is a 2.3L
Turbo, fuel injected engine with about 240 hp. More horsepower
from a stock engine means the engine is running at lower RPM's and not
working as hard. My friend Mike did a great job installing the
engine and rebuilding the skid plate to accommodate the new engine.
The bottom 6 pictures shows off the new engine. The first pic on
the left shows the guy at G & R Auto Wreckers in Eugene testing the engine for me. The last 4 pics shows how it looks today! Looking
good and ready to Rock and Roll! |
